  • Hotel Durant - close to campus, but expensive, like all hotels in Berkeley.

  • aircraft sound-muffs
  • headset for skype
  • irock adapter, if you play guitar, for rental guitars.
  • Clothes
    • for shared showers: flip-flops, soap, shampoo
    • indoor shoes or sandals
    • light outdoor boots for quick walks to telescope
      • hiking boots for castle rock in mcmurdo.
    • carhart work pants (2)
    • down booties / light jacket
  • good sunglasses, sunblock
  • alarm clock or phone with clock.
  • small thermos (big ones are provided)
  • good heavy outdoor gloves (I don't like the EWG ones)
  • work gloves for inside handling metal, etc.
  • headlamp and/or flashlight (for electronics work, also for in your room at mcmurdo to not wake your roommate)
  • field kit.
